Reading Fluency & Kindergarten Readiness

Definition: Reading fluency & Kindergarten readiness are important public health priorities; they support comprehension, early learning skills, social-emotional development, and healthy behaviors at school.

Metric Data

The Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI) is an assessment that measure a student’s ability to read that every Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders in the state completes.

There is a pre-test in the Fall and a post-test in the Spring that allows schools to measure growth across students. This data is updates annually and reported by the State Board of Education. The following dashboard allows for comparison across districts in the EIPH counties.

What is EIPH Doing?

Parents as Teachers is funded by the Maternal Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting(MIECHV) program. MIECHV supports pregnant women and families and helps at risk parents or children from birth to kindergarten entry. Families tap into multiple resources and hone the skills needed for parents to raise children who are physically, socially, and emotionally healthy and ready to learn.
